Important results from the project
Uppsala Health Summit 2016 took place on the 10th 12th October on the theme ´Ending Childhood Obesity. 180 personally invited delegates from academia, industry, public sector and civil society participated from 36 countries and five continents. The delegates had high expectations on the programme and on opportunities for exchange. These expectations were exceeded. New cross-sectoral partnerships were initiated, notably around social innovation. Conclusions from the discussions in at Uppsala Health Summit were embodied in the WHOs recommendations for its member states.
Expected long term effects
The conclusions from the summit were delivered to WHO´s open process for a global implementation plan against childhood obesity. The new plan, on the WHA´s agenda in May, reflects many of the summit´s proposals. Contacts and collaborations were initiated during the summit. A new application is drafted for Horizon 2020 around social innovation, ECHO zones, with participants from ten countries and the WHO .New crossdisciplinary collaborations have started, e.g. for health coaching application using voice interaction technology for people with chronic diseases, such as diabetes.
Approach and implementation
The 2016 theme was in repsonse to WHO´s process on childhood obesity. Based on their report, we defined areas to be developed in the program, for which UHS´s partners have the expertise to develop a workshop. Target groups outside academia were mapped and contacted. A Pre-Conference Report was sent out, a common platform for the dialogue at the summit. Formats for to support dialogues in workshops were developed. Conclusions were documented and sent to WHO, and to the delegates to comment on, then summarized in the Post-Conference Report distributed to the target groups.
