Important results from the project
The main results of the project is a publicly available and methodologically stringent database for the period 1970-2023. It is based on a relational infrastructure that links information on innovations, companies, journal articles, patents, public funding, and more. Research based on the database has led to a number of conclusions of relevance for evidence-based innovation policy, on innovation funding, innovation in the bioeconomy, and long-term innovation trends.
Expected long term effects
The SWINNO database is a unique data infrastructure that connects innovations, patents, company data and public funding support. Our hope is that the SWINNO database will be used in broader contexts and by analysts and researchers for a deeper understanding of Swedish innovation activity.
Approach and implementation
The project has consisted of several data collection and data processing work streams related to the overall objectives of the project. Data has been collected and updated, extended backwards in time, broadened by including additional journals, and the database has been expanded by matching innovations to patents and public funding. On the basis of the data, several research themes have been investigated, which has led to several published articles, working papers and two PhD dissertations.
