Important results from the project

The purpose of the conference was to bring together innovation actors in the mining and metals sector in Sweden to present and discuss important issues, and network. Topics were Swedish Mining Innovations´s role after 12 successful years, innovation drivers, future technology for environmental performance, AI, space and deep mining, social sustainability and other research and innovation initiatives. There were 200 participants. Included were speakers from Brazil, Finland and the EU.

Expected long term effects

Feedback from delegates was collected and showed a very positive response to the conference and ideas for focus areas identified for a future conference. This was the last conference held by Swedish Mining Innovation programme. It was the wish of participants to continue with similar annual conferences after Swedish Mining Innovation programme ends.

Approach and implementation

The conference was held as planned: lunch-lunch 14-15 May in Luleå. There were 200 delegates. The conference consists of six sessions with 25 presentations and three panel discussions. 12 projects exhibited in the event´s "Innovation Showroom”" where you could discuss with other delegates during coffee breaks and mingling. There was a good gender distribution with about 45% female speakers. Information about the conference was disseminated via SMI´s website, newsletter and social media.
