Venture Center for Financial Market Research

Purpose and goal

SHoF was founded in 2011 with the goal of creating a national center for financial research that is competitive at the highest international level. The idea behind the initiative is to - strengthen financial research in Sweden - create a critical mass and obtain economies of scale that enable future expansion, - share positive externalities with the private, public and academic sectors in Sweden. The overall goal is to place the center among the top five financial research centers in Europe.

Expected effects and result

SHoF works to achieve its objective by: -creating a common physical research infrastructure for Swedish financial researchers -building a national center for financial data -operating a course program in finance available to all doctoral students in Sweden -operating research interaction through open seminars, organize conferences and inviting guest researchers -supporting the recruitment of international researchers to Swedish institutions -bringing r&d funding from foundations and industry.

Planned approach and implementation

Activities are carried out within a national structure governed by a board, management and a scientific council. Work is organized in integrated programs for infrastructure, data, education and research exchange, including incentive schemes for recruitment and retention through fellowship and publication programs. Annual planning, follow-up and quality assurance, collaboration with Swedish universities, international researchers and funders ensures efficient resource use and delivery.
