Project duration December 2020 - September 2021

Important results from the project

RISE is establishing an application center for additive manufacturing, and the aim of this project was to evaluate the potential in using the RISE AM Center as a national testbed for additive manufacturing. This involved also analysing the industrial needs as well as which business model is suitable for a sustainable and long lasting testbed and that can compete with such international environment. The model and setup seem to be functional and viable, and however, sustainable support from public funding is not fully solved, why such environment would be not accessible for all partners.

Expected long term effects

This project had the objective to identify any gaps and risks of building a testbed environment that is run by an independent operator such as RISE closely with academia and industry. The project has been positive and led to an in-depth discussion about educations and other skills-enhancing initiatives from the academy. The project also acted as a bas for initiating discussions with several different financiers to jointly complement the financial need in such an infrastructure. The outcome has been positive with strong regional support.

Approach and implementation

The project has been implemented through a dialogue with the industry (various sectors and partners along the value chain) and financiers. Monthly meetings have been held with the industry consortia, which consisted of 16 different actors from several countries. Discussions with a number of different SIPs have also been conducted, to investigate their possible interests.
