Important results from the project

RETRII, Resilient European Test Road & Integration Initiative, is a long-term initiative, targeting Europe´s most complete infrastructure for winter testing of future road vehicles. The infrastructure includes energy and telecom. Initial focus was placed on public HPC charging, including heavy page needs. Infrastructure for winter 2021-22 is secured via a newly formed AB. The work presupposes after the study with: - A national prioritization of the issue and funding at EU level. - Proactive work to solve structural obstacles, not least in the power sector.

Expected long term effects

The strategy group´s analysis clearly points to a number of national cohesive initiatives. The study has also created in-depth insight into R&D and ToD needs within the current challenges regarding energy supply of the transport system and its integration. In addition, the Winter Test region is particularly pointed out as a global arena for these issues. The project has also gathered strength and created a critical mass of resources working in this area in Sweden today. A first step cleared for the winter of 2021-22. Both the strategy group and the project group will continue the work.

Approach and implementation

The purpose was to form a RETRII-plan with: Requirements in the winter of 2021-22, long-term requirements, definition of a stakeholder group/Industrial group to ensure a broad introduction, a review of possible financing routes. The project´s work with research issues was oriented towards the fact that there is an overall national and a European perspective (the pace of change), as well as a vehicle and an infrastructure perspective on the issue (technical perspective on the introduction of breadth). A very important aspect is what partnership can be formed in relation to this.
