RE:purpose

Purpose and goal

The project aims to increase the reuse of entire buildings in Sweden, as part of reducing the environmental impact of the construction sector. A key issue for success in this is developing methods to understand and describe the values contained in existing buildings, in order to be able to use them as resources. The goal of this project is to develop new knowledge about how this can be done and refine and disseminate methodology that contributes to the development of the industry.

Expected effects and result

The expected effect is to help accelerate the real estate industry´s transition to a more careful use of resources than today, and to show how it can create increased value in several ways. Increased reuse of entire buildings would both contribute to significantly reduced waste volumes, and also to a richer cultural heritage. Through case studies and close collaboration with the property owner, the ambition is to create good examples and spread knowledge.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be carried out as a concrete case study based on the property that ArkDes will assign to each project team through the call for proposals Re:purpose. Our team has a particular focus on improving the methods of communicating and visualizing values - economic, architectural, cultural - early in the work. The work is carried out through a series of work packages that cover a process from inventory to redevelopment proposal for the property in question.
