Important results from the project
Within the project, neutron and synchrotron X-ray materials analysis software and service spin-off Scatterin AB teamed up with RISE Compraser Labs and performed proof-of-concept synchrotron X-ray measurements to explore the potential of synchrotron technology for non-destructive and bulk analysis of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) components.
Expected long term effects
CFPR components are widely used in the aerospace industry and this project helped Scatterin to enhance understanding of materials challenges, industrial needs and develop a case study for R&D and quality control of CFRP components using synchrotron technology. Scatterin´s in-house algorithm development and networking activities led by RISE will help Scatterin creating business opportunities including both data analysis software and service offerings.
Approach and implementation
The project followed the plan, with RISE designing and manufacturing both reference and complex component-like CFRP parts for synchrotron X-ray measurements. Proof-of-concept measurements were successfully conducted at DanMAX beamline, MAX IV in Lund. The analysis of the synchrotron X-ray data was performed by Scatterin.
