Important results from the project
The vision was to understanding how societal transformation towards prevention can be initiated, focusing on improved child health in general and childhood obesity in particular. The project has established a wide network (municipality/region/authorities/public-private-non-profit sector) nationally and started to work on a data-driven approach to understand and follow the complex situation. The project has mapped ongoing preventive initiatives regarding childhood obesity/ health, and investigated driving forces for prevention work, including health economics.
Expected long term effects
A plan for the next step was established, which emphasizes the importance of a broad participation of actors, incentives for sustainable prevention work, a data-driven approach and digital solutions. This provides the conditions for continued prevention work, which contributes to improved child health and is expected to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity. The project built the foundation for preventive work, which we now want to develop further by building "example" in a real environment, a Swedish municipality and associated region, and scale up nationally.
Approach and implementation
The project included 4 work packages: "Measurement, follow-up and data for early prevention of childhood obesity", "Best Practice", "Grand Challenge", "Incentives, compensation- business models and health economic models for preventive interventions against childhood obesity". The need for a more interactive structure for the work packages increased during the process, to optimize the way forward. Due to the pandemic physical meetings were relatively scarce and had preferably been more frequent, to create consensus and strengthen relations when working on a complex project.
