Important results from the project

The aim of the project is to contribute to increased safety and security in Swedish municipalities. To achieve this, a unique site collaboration model has been developed in order to improve places that are affected by crime and perceived as unsafe. The model has been developed in collaboration between the county administrative boards in Dalarna and Västmanland, Stiftelsen Tryggare Sverige and Svenska Stadskärnor and is based on current research and proven experience. The model is offered as a commercial product on the national market.

Expected long term effects

An evaluation of pilot municipalities showed that the model works and creates better conditions for save, secure and attractive places. All municipalities report better local collaboration and communication due to the model. The pilot municipalities agree on the value of the models safety analysis to identify effective safety-creating measures. New and appropriate collaboration organizations were formed and already after 12 months of the test period, more than 50% of the action plan´s initiatives in pilot municipalities had been started or completed.

Approach and implementation

The model has been tested in four Swedish medium-sized municipalities with different safety and security challenges. During the testing period the model was adjusted to be more cost-effective and to meet the municipalities´ needs and requirements of the uppcoming legislation that makes municipalities responsible for local crime prevention measures. Experiences from the project have been comunicated in webbinars , leaflets, films, newsletters and on the hompage. The model is available on the national market and is offered as a two-year full-scale model and a one-year entry-model.
