Important results from the project
To develop a strategic innovation and research agenda in the field of photonics - Achieved. To describe the field of optics and photonics from a Swedish perspective - Achieved. To identify areas where joint initiatives and efforts in photonics can create interdisciplinary collaborations while developing a variety of industries - Achieved: Biophotonics, automation and ICT have been identified. To further develop and deepen cooperation with the five others, key enabling technologies, according to EU definition, and particularly micro-and nanoelectronics - Partially achieved.
Expected long term effects
Project´s main result is the photonics agenda, developed by seven working groups and about 100 experts in five workshops (some took place before the project start). This report gives a description of the current situation, vision, objectives and an outline of the strategy itself. Photonics in Sweden is particularly fragmented, therefore this process and this report are so important and a starting point for further interactions and developments. The next step will be to analyse the economic impact and develop a strategy to increase the use of, and expertise in, photonic technologies.
Approach and implementation
- A fifth workshop was organized on June 18 with the theme ´interactions with other agendas.´ - The working groups have formulated a clear description of each field. - The agenda has been written by the project leader with the assistance and input from many others, among which the work group chairs. - A meeting has been organized on September 20 (with webcasting) to anchor the agenda´s first draft. - Many interactions have occurred with other agendas in the framework of the agenda ´Smarter electronic system for Sweden´, which has led to a joint application for an SIO.
