Important results from the project

The project initially aimed to develop and evaluate a corrosion-resistant nickel-iron coating for battery contacts. As the project progressed, this objective was redefined to establish a testing method for simulating the aging of contacts under load in vehicles. This shift was in response to the identified need for a standardized, accelerated testing process, which has now been achieved through the development of a flexible testing facility.

Expected long term effects

The project has culminated in a climate chamber for testing contact materials under varying environmental conditions and a multi-channel loading and measurement setup for detailed data collection. The software developed for controlling load cycles contributes to more realistic testing conditions. These advancements are expected to enhance the understanding and durability of battery contacts in vehicles, providing significant value to the industry.

Approach and implementation

The project was dynamically adapted to emerging needs and technical challenges. Collaboration with RISE and dialogue with the industry were pivotal in defining testing conditions and constructing a versatile testing facility. The development of a custom test rig and software for detailed data collection and control of testing conditions marks a significant milestone in the project´s progress.
