Important results from the project

Solvina has good knowledge and solid experience in how conventional production interacts with the power grid, while Chalmers is at the forefront of training and research around inverter-based renewable production. The objective was to establish a mutual exchange of knowledge that will provide increased knowledge and understanding of the power system and this has been achieved through a series of activities in education, supervision and development, and through the fact that the collaboration will continue even after the project end date.

Expected long term effects

For Chalmers, the project has contributed with knowledge and experience from the industry and made both education and research more realistic and applicable. For example, experiences from power plant testing are now a regular part of the ENM052 Ancilliary services course. For Solvinas, it has contributed to the development of Solvina´s services so that they are relevant to the ongoing energy transition, both within the course activities and in various projects, and also provided access for Solvina´s staff to current knowledge in the field .

Approach and implementation

The practical arrangement (20% on site) has worked smoothly. During the course of the project, a greater adaptation to the varying workload at both Solvina and Chalmers was developed, i.e. attendance went from a given full day per week to more based on needs and availability, typically half a day per week plus scattered time when suitable. A certain regularity has, however, added value as it has given the opportunity for spontaneous discussions and meetings. Not deciding the tasks in detail in advance has also worked well, given the smooth collaboration during the course of the project.
