Important results from the project
Finally, we can see the entire diabetes ecosystem start coming together. Sweden´s innovation authority, Vinnova, one of the world´s leading AI organizations, SAS Institue, Hack for Earth Foundation, and Diabetes Center Berne, to name a few of the partners. However, this would not have been possible without data donors, and excellent teams who participated. This is the first step toward more open data, and value-driven innovation, by challenging existing solutions, and start putting the user´s needs and perspective in focus. with the help of AI and collaborations across borders.
Expected long term effects
We are amazed by the outcomes for all teams participating. The winners during the first #IHackForDiabetes was iGrant.io, with the motivation from the jury: ”The solution enables patients to control and share their own data for purposes chosen by the patient. The potential of this solution is a new level of interoperability which could impact and improve the lives of thousands of people, living with type 1 diabetes.”
Approach and implementation
Top 3 lessons: A complete data donor must have the following: Blood sugar insulin & activity data. If not all 3 factors are met, it is difficult to carry out a credible analysis and see the connections. 2. Allow people under 18 to become data donors, parents are the main decision-makers & incredibly committed to influencing their child´s everyday life and future. Mandatory physical inspiration day for all teams to qualify, and physically present on the open pitch deck. The physical presence resulted in higher involvement in the competition, which generated better end results.
