Important results from the project

Hydrogen as a fuel can facilitate the transition to sustainable transportation. The Hydrogen Logistics Preparation Project is being carried out to prepare for a system demonstration project with hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. The application to FFI will be submitted in 2026. Vehicles in HyLo are trucks from Scania and Volvo and pickups from Toyota. The demo project is shaped by the actors and issues that are most important to facilitate a mass market for commercial hydrogen vehicles.

Expected long term effects

The project has confirmed that there is a strong commitment to hydrogen for transport applications. Sweden is uniquely positioned with a good network of modern hydrogen refuelling stations capable of handling heavy vehicles. Having two leading OEMs making hydrogen trucks in the country is another important advantage. Given that the resulting application is granted, the system demo project will have a key role in the development of a market for hydrogen commercial vehicles.

Approach and implementation

The actors in the project as well as those in the surrounding hydrogen vehicle ecosystem have invested extensive resources in developing a proposal for a system demo. It has been very positive to work on something that is in such high demand. An unexpected negative change was Statkraft´s group decision not to pursue hydrogen and the resulting delay in the preparation project schedule. Fortunately, there are many other actors who want to take on the role of hydrogen suppliers.
