Important results from the project
The Aim of the Eurostar Rapid Disk project was to develop a methodology for rapid (< 8h) andautomated susceptibility testing using disk Diffusion. The project has fullfilled this aimalmost completely. So far there are more validation to perform regarding the fully automated reading of zone-diameters.
Expected long term effects
The method will soon be available for Clincal microbiologists in Europe and we expect that it will be used incereasingly often especially in laboratories with 24/7 service. The method has prooved safe not only as a preliminary result but for many antibiotic/bacteria combinations also as a final result.
Approach and implementation
The study has been performed accordning to the project plan regarding the development of the rapid disk diffusion methodology. The collaboration between BD and Kiestra during the project affected the speed in the development of the fully automated method.
