Important results from the project
The project aimed to allow practice or training for newly arrived engineers, the objective was 15-20 internships. Engineer-to-engineer has been implemented in collaboration with 20 companies and the Association of Municipalities around Gothenburg, GR, IVA and the union for engineers. Among the companies are the three major engineering companies in the Gothenburg region: Eriksson, Volvo and SKF. This has taken longer and required more work than we expected, because we misjudged the inertia of large organizations. We had at the end of the project reached 20 internships and 3 jobs.
Expected long term effects
Our initial focus was engineers. During the project other groups of academics also have obtained internships, such as HR administration and project manager. We have also chosen to be flexible in attitude as to where the engineer is in the integration process, to see the engineer and his/her knowledge and needs. We have good network with contacts and hence greater opportunity to help qualified engineers, often even better then the unempoyment office in Sweden.
Approach and implementation
20 engineers have had practical training, the objective was 15-20 engineers. 3 persons of the category´annat´ have received internships We have organized three conferences with high level of attendance. Evaluation shows that Swedish participants experienced these currently very positive. In addition to our initial list of 35 engineers there are another 50 engineers currently registered in our database A network has been established among the engineers who now have contact with each other and help each other in Sweden. This occurs to a greater extent than we initially anticipated.
