Important results from the project
Until today, traditional weather satellites are developed, built and operated institutionally, for example through Eumetsat in Europe and NOAA in the USA. Aims of the project have been to develop a miniaturized receiver for observing the waterline and make it available to commercial actors who provide weather data. A receiver has been developed and tested within the project. The need for more weather satellites is considered important to improve future weather forecasting.
Expected long term effects
The developed receiver has once again demonstrated that we can develop accurate instruments. We expect to be able to make this type of receiver available on the market within a year or so
Approach and implementation
The project has been divided into four to some extent parallel phases. After an initial requirement specification and feasibility study where the desired performance was documented, Construction and Manufacturing were carried out partly in parallel. After manufacturing, Tests were carried out. The setup was suitable for this project, but the tests could have started earlier, as minor design changes became necessary afterwards based on measurement results.
