Important results from the project

The project´s objective was to create an engaging experience of communicating with a natural entity to change our relationship with water. We developed a future prototype based on AI, shown at Vinnova´s opening and at Lake Vombsjön during the Biosphere Festival 2024. Visitors could communicate by writing in the sand, where the lake responded via sound or image. The project received media attention and a website was created: vattenjagen.org.

Expected long term effects

Our future prototype can be used to strengthen the relationship with water and other natural entities. It can be further developed with different designs but with the same basic question: how do we rebuild our relationship with nature? Work on more applications has already begun, with potential to increase empathy for nature and our access to clean water. The prototype can be adapted for schools, museums and Naturum, from digital chatbots to physical interfaces for an immersive experience.

Approach and implementation

Initially, there was no clear picture of how the prototype would be designed, only that it would be based on AI functionality. During the process, the ambition evolved into a physical, immersive prototype, which set new eligibility requirements on design and procurement of equipment. The collaboration worked well and we were able to keep to the schedule. During the course of the project, we also made contacts with actors who were not involved from the beginning, such as Biosfärområde Storkriket.
