Purpose and goal
ALERT-IOD will demonstrate how AI-based onboard processing can turn satellite data into rapid, operational insights. The project aims to reduce data volumes by up to 99.9 percent, achieve delivery in under 15 minutes, and enable multi-user services for organizations requiring fast and reliable information during crises and environmental events.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to deliver validated methods that reduce cost, latency, and data volumes for EO services. Expected effects include improved crisis resilience in Sweden and Europe, enhanced real-time response capabilities, and reduced reliance on external infrastructures. The results can enable scalable dual-use applications across multiple sectors.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will develop, optimize, and test AI pipelines on radiation-tolerant edge hardware, followed by integration into an in-orbit demonstration. Partners contribute system design, model compression, autonomous scheduling, and pilot validation with end users. Functionality will be verified both on the ground and in orbit.
