Important results from the project
Yes, a solid theoretical and numerical basis for the methodology to do quality control with the proposed methodology is established. The assumed difficulties for large objects and slender objects were confirmed. Soem parts of the BLACKWING aircraft has a complex design, making modelling of them time consuming, and may cause variation in production. The test setup and testing can be made at short time, shorter than esitimated at the start of the project.
Expected long term effects
The project can lead to both more research and development projects nationally and internationally, as well as more business for the project parties. Furthermore, Swedish, and international, companies can benefit from the conclusions from the project. It has been shown that relatively simple test setups, with equipment that is generally available and easy to use, can provide detailed information about the structural properties of components. More detailed than far more time-consuming load tests.
Approach and implementation
The project was based on planning and studies made by A2 Research prior to the project. The strategy was to study, using experimental and numerical methods, if structural properties of components made of carbon fiber reinforced composite can be detected from sound radiation, using forced vibrations. The strategy, to model and analyze components, and by experiments define simple, but sufficiently good, test setups, provided a good understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the method.
