Important results from the project

The goal was to develop and produce a proof of feasibility prototype to validate a system for the measurement of muscle mass and muscle quality (MAS). The feasibility prototype has since then been used for user and clinical tests on the market. The project has been validated for continued product development prior to a future launch of the system.

Expected long term effects

The result of the project is a working feasibility prototype MAS, which can be used to measure patients´ muscle mass and muscle quality. The effects of the project were on three levels. Level 1: Technical usability: To be able to initiate and carry out clinical measurements with the prototype according to a prel. manual. Level 2: Clinical usability: The doctor can interact, initiate and perform a measurement with a MAS unit. Level 3: Commercial feasibility: Analysis of user case, market, financial profitability, and risks.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented in six steps: Step 1. Establishing the software specifications (SRS), project deliverables for hardware and budget with the consultant firm, Step 2. Activity management/meetings - Hardware, design, and integration Step 3. Approval of the consultants final delivery regarding hardware Step 4. Embedding software Step 5. Printing prototype - Chassis, connections, energy supply Step 6. Labb test - function and design The project provided valuable insights for the continued development process for MAS and to secure a market launch in the near future.
