Important results from the project

The project aimed to position Sweden as a prominent player in information-driven healthcare. A systematic approach towards these goals has achieved the objectives set from the start. Overall, the project´s goals have been met by strengthening collaboration between healthcare providers and contributing to skills development and practical application of AI. Other important outcomes include new research questions and collaborations that are expected to continue beyond the project´s duration.

Expected long term effects

A significant impact has been made at operational, regional, and national levels through increased collaboration and knowledge sharing. The project has contributed to five long-term effects: improved healthcare quality and efficiency through AI, increased knowledge about AI´s potential and challenges, strengthened networks and collaborations nationally and internationally, development of innovative spinoff projects, and addressing legal and ethical issues for responsible use of AI in healthcare.

Approach and implementation

The environment started in 2019 and was carried out by a core team with representatives from regions, universities, and AI Sweden. A regional reference group with representatives from 21 regions and a datascientist network within healthcare was also established in the environment. The project was carried out in three phases: In phase 1, the environment and collaborations were established, phase 2 ensured national coordination, and in phase 3, knowledge transfer at a national level was achieved.
