Important results from the project
The objectives of SECURE have been met through the development of new stormwater solutions and improved approaches to the design and modelling of stormwater systems, contributing to flood risk reduction and cost-effective construction. The new solutions are space-efficient, which facilitates their implementation in densely populated areas. Furthermore, SECURE has clarified the impact of urban green spaces on flooding and stormwater system design, and how park spaces can be optimised during construction and operation.
Expected long term effects
SECURE´s results are of great interest to the water industry, mainly municipal water organisations and consultants, but also companies that design or build stormwater or park facilities. The results are expected to lead to further (inter)national innovation collaborations and contacts with actors in the stormwater sector have been developed during the project. The participating consultancies can apply the project results in their work on stormwater systems. The projects results contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through i.a. increased resilience to flooding.
Approach and implementation
SECURE has been led by LTU and carried out in close collaboration with StormTac and Tyréns. The need owners have through workshops and reconciliation contributed with views on the project´s focus and work and with information on case studies. The work in all work packages has been carried out in collaboration between researchers and parties with the aim of developing new solutions and working methods in a research way, but which are also permeated by and favour practical design of, and practical work on, stormwater systems.
