Important results from the project

The project took an important step towards more sustainable, individually adapted clothing production. We developed and tested a working prototype that automatically adapts garment patterns to a person´s body measurements, enabling garments to be produced only once ordered – reducing overproduction and returns. The prototype was validated internally with good results. Next, we will test it with real customers. The project also deepened customer dialogue.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, the solution can contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry. By automatically adapting garments to the individual´s own measurements – instead of standard sizes – clothing companies can significantly reduce the number of returns due to poor fit, while at the same time reducing overproduction and textile waste thanks to production only upon order. The project lays the foundation for a scalable solution that can reach more actors in the fashion and textile industry.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented in two work packages: method development and prototype/testing. The approach worked well and the activities were appropriate to achieve the goals. However, we needed more time in the initial phase for research and method selection than planned, which pushed the schedule back slightly. The internal development and testing work was carried out according to plan, while the pilot customer integratio is now being taken forward in the next step.
