Internationalization 2D materials 2025

Reference number
Coordinator Stiftelsen Chalmers Industriteknik
Funding from Vinnova SEK 994 480
Project duration March 2025 - February 2026
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation program SIO Grafen

Important results from the project

The project´s aim was to increase the international connectivity of SIO Grafens players by encouraging early-stage SMEs to increase their international contacts, and by raising awareness and connecting the entire 2D materials ecosystem to existing EU initiatives on innovative advanced materials. The Swedish ecosystem for 2D materials and more broadly for advanced materials is now European-wide connected. The Swedish startups have strengthened their international connectivity.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, we expect a strong Swedish presence in the European materials programs, both within the IAM-I partnership and the IAM4EU program as well as in the EIC-project. A level at least in line with the Swedish target for participation in Horisont Europa, 3.7%. We also expect that the Swedish startups will be strengthened through increased international collaborations, both commercial and research/innovation.

Approach and implementation

Startups and SMEs working with 2D materials received support for international activities in early phases, i.e. before working towards e.g. a defined European call. The ecosystem for 2D materials has been linked to the European partnership IAM-I, mainly through the new Swedish platform for advanced materials initiated by SIO Grafen - IAM4Sweden. A webinar on EIC was held in December 2025.
