Purpose and goal

This 9-month project will industrially validate and prepare the market launch of a bioinspired nanocomposite that provides non-toxic, biocide-free preservation for waterbased paints. Through a physical antimicrobial mechanism that mimics nature’s bactericidal surfaces, it replaces chemical biocides restricted under EU BPR/REACH. Workpackage 1 validates performance with paint manufacturers, while Workpackage 2 optimizes for commercial readiness and safety.

Expected effects and result

The project delivers a technically validated and regulatory-ready nanocomposite for market introduction. It will provide technical validation in collaboration with industry partners, conduct environmental safety testing, and complete optimization for market readiness. The result is a scalable, industrially adopted technology that strengthens Sweden’s position in sustainable materials innovation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project (Nov 2025–Aug 2026) is carried out in two work packages. WP1: industrial validation with Nordic paint manufacturers through microbial testing and performance analysis. WP2: product optimization for market entry via RISE safety testing, REACH documentation, and commercial strategy. Progress tracked through KPIs and milestones. Goal: technically validated, regulation-ready solution for sustainable paint industry.
