Important results from the project

The purpose of the project was to investigate issues surrounding intellectual property rights, conditions for joint ownership by different parties and whether the innovation is considered a medical device or not and what this means for further development. The goal is partially fulfilled, there is an available legal investigation where the issues are addressed and there is a completed and signed agreement between the currently relevant parties. As the conclusion was to run the project as a proof of concept, some questions remain until after that phase has been completed and evaluated.

Expected long term effects

We have gained a significantly greater understanding of the legal aspects that we have to take into account in the project. Although they are partly unresolved, we have a plan for the work going forward. Our hope is to be able to develop an evidence-based product that can be owned and managed by an external party, but that we, as innovators, retain certain rights to research and development. Lessons learned from the project can be spread to similar projects project.

Approach and implementation

We have had frequent meetings with the contracted legal firm and our own legal bodies at each workplace. Questions that arose during the project have been able to be addressed quickly and we have received agreements in place that would have been very difficult to come up with ourselves.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
