Important results from the project
The project´s aim was combined domain knowledge + research at Hitachi (formerly ABB) in the field of HVDC with new methods in artificial intelligence from Mälardalens Högskola. This should create better products and service offerings on the market. We have during the project developed and commercialized products for data collection in customers´ facilities. HVDC data and data from other similar processes have been used in research to develop algorithms. Deliverables: Products, articles and thesis. Better use of HVDC enables increased use of green energy sources.
Expected long term effects
Several papers have been published: http: //www.es.mdh.se/projects/515-Digitalization_of_HVDC_grids_by_means_of_smart_data_discovery 3 MSc thesis students. One of the students was hired at ABB (before acquisition by Hitachi) 1 PhD project started (on hold by the student) 1 new PhD application for a follow up approved by SSF A product released on the market for data acquisition, enabling a relevant source for the published AI / ML methods. A strong collaboration established between Hitachi and Academia.
Approach and implementation
There were three pillars for the implementation of the project: 1. A new commercial need for efficient AI-based analysis of operational data 2. Access to data through development of a data infrastructure 3. Research and development of new effective AI for interpreting data Steps 1 and 2 were conducted at Hitachi ABB Power Grids. It has been sold to several customers, and is expected to be a future support for service to customers. Stage 3 has primarily been directed by MdH. There was changes in staff that has been handled professionally through the deployment of alternative resources.
