Important results from the project

The goal of the project was to understand and develop how a consolidation solution for e-commerce transport could be created on market terms. This objective was achieved by the group agreeing that virtual coordination could be a good first way forward. It was then investigated how the solution could be implemented and designed, and how it could generate business benefits. It has also been discussed what is required to scale up such a solution.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, it can create collaborations and higher utilization of resources between actors in the e-commerce chain. Four values created by "virtual consolidation": - Consumers get a more attractive delivery solution that saves time (and money) - E-retailers get reduced shipping costs - Transport companies get improved margins - Society gets less traffic and environmental pollution despite creating greater customer value

Approach and implementation

The project involved interviews with all parties, two roundtable discussions, a joint working meeting to deepen the discussions and several smaller working group meetings. Addition to the project group, relevant external actors were invited to take the project forward. The second roundtable discussion had to be postponed due to illness and was carried out two weeks later than planned. Due to the short duration of the project, the project´s end date had to be postponed. Cooperation worked well.
