Important results from the project

The project intended to study how a cost-effective bio-based filter material can be produced and tested in the production of mouth guards. Initial production trials were made where a book paper on a special roll was manufactured and later tested in a mouthguard production facility. The project also studied how a 1st generation cellulose-based filter material could be structured and produced. The conclusion of the trials was that mouth guards with cellulose-based filter materials were technically possible to manufacture and that there is great potential with the bio-based material.

Expected long term effects

The aim of the project was to develop a cost-effective bio-based filter material and succeeded to some extent in this by developing 1st generation cellulose-based filter materials with relatively high breathability. The project has also contributed with knowledge in the field and our hope is that the long-term goal of securing Swedish production of mouthguards has been accelerated. The project was anchored with healthcare that would liked to try out the developed demonstrators, but unfortunately it was not possible to test the developed concept within the framework of the project.

Approach and implementation

The project with coordinator MoRe Research worked with involved companies and universities together to solve the issues. Each party had different tasks that resulted in trials and production of filter material. In retrospect, we should have had more meetings at the end of the project to collect all information and knowledge on the subject. We should also work together on a new proposal in the area to take the next step in the development of bio-based filter materials.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
