Important results from the project

The project achieved its primary objective of mapping critical process parameters and understanding their effects on the antibacterial efficacy of the nanocomposite. This systematic approach led to the development of an improved formulation, demonstrating the power of process optimization in advancing nanomaterial technologies. By leveraging these insights, the new product is well-positioned to meet industry demands and pave the way for further innovations.

Expected long term effects

This project has enabled us to map and control the production process, optimizing the antimicrobial performance of Xcida´s product. These advancements position us to collaborate with stakeholders in the paint manufacturing industries of Sweden and Germany for product validation. By leveraging the knowledge gained, we can adjust and refine the antimicrobial properties during full-scale validation with paint manufacturers, ensuring the product meets industry and application-specific needs.

Approach and implementation

The project was structured into two main work packages: WP1, focused on nanocomposite development, and WP2, which focused on experimental investigations. WP2 involved evaluating the nanocomposite through various tests: Assessing antimicrobial efficacy against factory microbial contamination. Determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for bacterial and fungal strains. Using SEM to visualize particle morphology and mechanism of bacterial killing. Measuring UV absorption properties.
