Important results from the project
Speech interfaces are an effective way to convey complex information that, properly designed, can help drivers better perceive traffic situations and avoid potential dangers. However, many questions remain regarding how the design of the speech interfaces affects the driver´s attention and ability to drive the car. This feasibility study project was to investigate which methods can be used to create guidelines for how speech interfaces used by drivers should be designed.
Expected long term effects
The project reached all of its objectives. The consortium is now preparing a proposal for FFI´s spring call.
Approach and implementation
Nagoon was responsible for the technical development within the project and set up a test environment to monitor people in simulated driving situations to allow for tests that as closely as possible resemble an actual driver´s situation when using speech-based support KTH made sure that the research was conducted in an ethical and methodologically correct way and also that the project was kept up-to-date with the latest relevant research findings. The collaboration worked well throughout the duration of the project.
