Important results from the project
The project demonstrated that decentralized data processing is technically feasible and legally relevant and can help meet privacy requirements within the EHDS. A systemdemonstrator for decentralized analysis and PETs was developed. A game-based methodology was created as an effective tool for identifying disagreements and anchoring solutions in real user needs. In addition, the project has contributed to Swedish and European policy development through formal responses and consultations.
Expected long term effects
The project shows that the future health data ecosystem must be flexible and resilient. A federated model, where algorithms move instead of sensitive data, reinforces principles such as data minimization, autonomy, and integrity. This enables research and innovation without compromising patient rights. Long term, these insights support safe treatment environments, greater interoperability, and a legally sound, ethically sustainable ecosystem resilient to technological lock-in.
Approach and implementation
The project followed planned activities, but adjustments along the way led to better results. We used scenarios, game-based methods, and service design to enhance understanding and foster dialogue among stakeholders (project partners and external actors) on legal, technical, and user-related issues. Iterative prototype development proved more effective than parallel work, and workshops deepened insights. EHDS was not implemented within the project timeframe, which complicated the work.
