Purpose and goal

SuNHigh will explore innovative ways to apply protective aluminide coatings to nickel-based alloys. The project aims to understand how different coating methods affect the material´s ability to resist oxidation, helping to extend the life and performance of these advanced materials in high-temperature environments.

Expected effects and result

We aim to identify the potential and limitations of different aluminizing coating processes for enhancing the oxidation protection and durability of nickel-based alloys at high temperatures. This work will lay the foundation for a full project on aluminizing of various Ni-based superalloys, expanding their applications in high-temperature environments. In the long term, the project will help optimize the most promising processes for future large-scale implementation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will: - Assess the feasibility of three aluminizing processes on nickel alloy substrates by producing and testing samples. - Evaluate the effectiveness, potential, and limitations of each aluminizing process by examining the types of compounds formed in the coating (coating characterization). - Analyze the impact of aluminized coatings on durability at high temperatures by studying the oxidation behavior of the coated nickel alloy.
