Important results from the project

Stockholm Kayak Trail is a way to establish the archipelago as a world-leading kayak destination through beautiful and safe kayak routes that enable sustainable and unique nature experiences for both Swedes and tourists. The project has been successful, and has developed Stockholm Kayak Trail from a proven MVP to a pilot trail with 3 stretches that can has been tested and evaluated by users (paddlers), customers (companies) and other stakeholders (community partners) during the kayak season 2021.

Expected long term effects

The project has led to Stockholms Kajakled having three quality-accessed stretches that can be used by anyone who wants an archipelago experience with a kayak. Maps are available both physically and digitally, and useful information is available at both access points and online on the kayak trail´s website. Stockholm´s kayak trail is starting to become known among kayakers, for example through media coverage and word of mouth. The free maps on the kayak trail´s website have been downloaded about 150 times and wilderness guides at the access points have given advice to many paddlers.

Approach and implementation

The project has had 4 main work packages. These are (1) digital infrastructure, (2) physical enablers at access points, (3) collaboration forum and (4) validation project. Taken together, these 4 work packages have established, tested and evaluated the kayak trail so that the kayak trail can continue to be operated and commercialized in an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable way.
