Stärka FoU-infrastruktur på NorthX Biologics och implementation av en innovationshubb

Reference number
Coordinator Northx Biologics Matfors AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 50 000 000
Project duration December 2021 - August 2023
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The goal was to establish an innovation hub at NorthX, which would promote collaboration, process and analytical development as well as GMP manufacturing of advanced biologics. By improving, changing and supplementing already existing infrastructure and building on existing competence, conditions were created for NorthX to become a Swedish hub with cooperation in a wider innovation cluster. The main goal was also to increase the attractiveness of running clinical trials in Sweden by offering support, guidance and training for less mature project and companies.

Expected long term effects

NorthX has identified, implemented, verified and validated the necessary equipment and infrastructure adaptation according to set objective. In addition, satellite functions such as management structure and support system were established to effectively support the innovation hub. All 4 sub-projects could be completed and the hub was operational as early as spring 2022. Through the establishment in Matfors and the acquisition in Stockholm, NorthX´s production, analysis and manufacturing capacity was strengthened, but also Sweden´s overall pandemic preparedness.

Approach and implementation

The four sub-projects were divided internally within NorthX into smaller working groups, which incorporated people and functions within all departments. A major concerted effort was carried out to identify the necessary infrastructure for medical project in advanced biologics, and purchases of equipment and technologies were adjusted accordingly. The project was carried out during the ongoing Covid pandemic, which led to extended lead times. But despite this, both customer projects and collaboration projects could start and be completed within the project´s time frame.
