Call Standardization as a tool for increased competitiveness

Important results from the project

Aim and objective have been that companies active in building-integrated PV (BIPV), through increased use of standards and through the establishment of a product certification should be able to increase the pace of innovation and market growth for BIPV. It was not possible to establish a product certification since a more long-term work at European level aiming at CE marking has started. The project has otherwise fulfilled aim and objective, among other things by producing a guide to CE marking and by establishing a Swedish representation in the European standardization cooperation.

Expected long term effects

In addition to a guide to CE marking and a course material on the same theme, the project has given the industry increased knowledge about standards, CE marking and how the requirements in BBR and CPR can be met by applying different standards. RISE and Gruppsol´s representation in the revision of the BIPV-standard EN 50583 have provided new valuable contacts. The project´s results will be used by RISE and the industry in ongoing and upcoming collaborations where new BIPV solutions will be developed and commercialized.

Approach and implementation

RISE has, through workshops and regular reconciliations with project partners and stakeholders, problematized different paths to a product certification and then made a decision with the project partners to focus the work on a future CE marking against the Construction Products Ordinance. A knowledge material with guidance for the industry prior to a CE marking of BIPV products has been prepared in collaboration between the project partners, under the leadership of RISE. Given the very dynamic environment the project had to deal with, we see the result as very successful.
