Call Increased resource efficiency, industry funding to a circular economy

Purpose and goal

This project RE-PAIR will explore and develop repair and reuse technology for forged and cast rotationally symmetrical products for hydropower and the oil and gas industry from a systems perspective. The energy sector is the first application area to be tested with SAAM and the technology should be able to be scaled up and spread through the start-up of Recycling Centers. The aim is to create a knowledge center for efficient dissemination and development of new applications/systems. The project will develop new technology, business models and value chain.

Expected effects and result

Instead of scrapping and remelting large steel components from the energy sector, the goal is to promote repair and reuse. RE-PAIR will create opportunities for this by developing a circular technology and economy. Expected results and effects are thus to, through technical development and development of business models, lay the foundation for building the majority of future Recycling Centers nationally and internationally, as part of spreading of the system solution.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will start by selecting demonstrators from the energy sector to be repaired. After that, all the process and material expert parties Högskolan Väst, Swerim, ESAB and SAAM AB will work together to develop technical strategies for repair, verification of the material properties, and testing of demonstrators in a relevant environment (all parties will contribute). In parallel with this, the project together with a consult will develop a viable and scalable business model for this type of repair.
