Important results from the project

The project´s goal was to investigate similarities and differences between the Swedish and Israeli innovation support systems with focus on deeptech in order to identify relevant areas of collaboration. Sweden and Israel are two small countries that are globally prominent in innovation. Deeptech innovations are resource intensive to commercialize (from discovery to scale) but have great potential to create growth and change. With shared or better utilized resources between countries, support in deeptech can be better.

Expected long term effects

The project team identified the following areas of collaboration with deeptech relevance: Due to the outbreak of war, it will be difficult to deepen the discussions with Israel right now. The way forward may instead be to nationally strengthen the above areas and investigate cooperation with other prioritized countries such as Singapore, Swiss etc 1. Joint collaboration model 2. Common of resources 3. Increased commercialization of research 4. Disclosure of financial instruments. 5. Demand-driven development models 6. Harmonization of governance and incentives.

Approach and implementation

The project has reviewed reports from the innovation authorities (Vinnova & IIA) in Sweden and Israel. Workshops and interviews have been conducted with key actors from the ecosystems. The preliminary study would be an approach towards a further deepening of the cooperation within climatetech. However, the outbreak of war in October meant that a number of planned activities (round-table discussions, interviews) had to be canceled and new data sources had to be identified. Given the ongoing war, collaboration will not be able to be investigated further in the near future.
