Project duration November 2024 - August 2025
Status Ongoing
Venture Accelerate - FFI
Call FFI Accelerate the transition to sustainable road transport - autumn 2024

Purpose and goal

The preparatory project OREEL intends to prepare for a system demonstration of electrified and emission-free transportation and handling of ore on public roads and within production facilities. The system demonstration is expected to showcase how the existing challenges in carrying out the transition of heavy trucks and work machines can be managed and how a robust energy system can enable this transition. The project´s consortium will be expanded in the system demonstration.

Expected effects and result

In the succeeding system demonstration, innovations will be tested in demanding conditions in a system context which is expected to illustrate how the electrified solutions for mining transport can be scaled up while maintaining productivity. By using Boliden´s production system as a test environment, insights are expected to be obtained that will pave the way for solutions that can be applied both nationally and internationally in mining and transportation in general.

Planned approach and implementation

The preparation project will be carried out based on four work packages. Several of Boliden´s production facilities will be analyzed based on the existing transportation and material handling processes to create a plan for which of these should be included in a subsequent system demonstration. In parallel, the transports between the production facilities in Boliden´s system will be analysed. Input from both analyzes will be used for a plan for the system demonstration.
