Important results from the project
The overall goal of the project to “Lower the threshold for municipalities to be able to participate in and be inspired by European work” was fulfilled through collective learning, communication and advocacy nationally and through extensive contributions to the MIMs framework at OASC. A key outcome is that RISE and the Swedish ecosystem are now a respected and integrated part of the European smart city & community network that revolves around OASC, Living-in.EU and the Digital Europe Program.
Expected long term effects
Following MIMs leads to better and more affordable services. There is a vested interest in doing so, which “IoT-mature” municipalities have understood and are working towards. At the same time, EU will introduce data spaces with requirements on MIMs compliance. In Sweden, many municipalities have MIMs-compliant platforms meaning that the adaptation to future data spaces will be significantly eased. Municipal suppliers also benefit because they can more easily enter a harmonised European market.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out in close collaboration with Smart City Lab and National covernance of MIMs. The key forums were the MIMs network (cities) and the working group standards & platforms (suppliers), and frequent communication at SCL´s monthly meetings. The project had a significantly greater impact on MIMs than expected. This led to several European projects and assignments that in turn enabled RISE´s involvement in EU´s dataspaces, digital twins, citiverse and AI activities.
