Important results from the project
The project achieved its goals by creating a solid knowledge base for electrification and climate neutrality in the Port of Helsingborg. Through analyses and simulations, important questions could be resolved already in the preparation phase. In addition, the project has clarified the role of the port as an energy node, developed new business models for electricity infrastructure and strengthened cooperation between Swedish ports–results that can accelerate the green transition of the industry .
Expected long term effects
In the long term, the project is expected to contribute to the Port of Helsingborg and other Swedish ports becoming forerunners in the energy transition. Through electrification, new business models and strengthened collaboration between ports and energy companies, the conditions for climate-neutral operation, increased competitiveness and a role as regional energy nodes are created – which strengthens both climate benefits and sustainable logistics nationally and internationally.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out as preparatory work for a system demonstrator and was led by the Port of Helsingborg in collaboration with RISE and Öresundskraft. Through analyses, simulations and scenarios, electricity needs, charging infrastructure, energy storage and business models were mapped. The work provided answers to key questions already at this stage, which laid a strategic foundation for electrification and climate neutrality in both Helsingborg and other ports.
