Important results from the project

Yes, the goals set for the project were met. The project gave us increased insight into the technology for automated heavy vehicles and the opportunities that exist in the area. It will serve as a basis for decisions regarding possible further collaborations around this technology. We also gained insight into the fact that this system can advantageously coexist with fully autonomous vehicles.

Expected long term effects

Lidars in infrastructure create opportunities for all types of vehicles, autonomous or not. Thus, this technology can be applied regardless of the autonomous strategy of vehicle manufacturers and operators. The benefits are greatest in confined spaces, such as bus depots, which can be optimized according to customer needs and conditions. This means reduced costs in the form of freeing up drivers, reduced damage to vehicles and infrastructure, and optimization of logistics flows.

Approach and implementation

A remote-controlled Scania bus was developed and adapted to Unikies Marshalling System for testdriving in a testdepot for buses. Unikies HIL systems were used for testing so that we did not have to build up physical sensors during the test phase. This was a success factor as we could test digitally against the final environment. We had challenges with steering at low speeds, which delayed the project. Apart from that, the activities went well and the cooperation with Unikie was excellent.
