Call Impact Innovation: System demonstrators for the sustainable manufacturing industries of the future - step 1

Purpose and goal

The aim is to establish a system demonstrator that enables large-scale collection, processing and circulation of Swedish wool. The goal is to: - increase competitiveness in the entire value chain. - increase understanding of wool production and its funding for ecosystem services as well as society´s preparedness and self-sufficiency. - reduce the footprint by 75% until 2035 from the parts of the Swedish industry where domestic wool can replace other raw materials.

Expected effects and result

The vision is a competitive domestic industry where all Swedish wool is used at its highest value. We see a future where every wool fiber contributes to a circular economy and a more sustainable society. The system demonstrator has as aim to stimulate transformation and deliver a resilient and circular Swedish industry that contributes to resource efficiency within the wool value chain, both within and outside the country´s borders.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be implemented in four work packages containing: Project management and communication, investigating investment needs for a circular wool hub, mapping needs for infrastructure, business modeling and offtake agreements i.e. increase knowledge of obstacles/opportunities to contribute to resilient and circular production and prepare efforts to improve process efficiency in the value chain.
