Call Impact Innovation: System demonstrators for the sustainable manufacturing industries of the future - step 1

Important results from the project

The project has created the basis for a future system demonstrator for Swedish wool. Through study trips, market analysis, developing machine documentation and conducting tests, the project has shown that Swedish wool can shift from a by-product to a valuable resource. We have built a strong consortium and strengthened Nordic cooperation. The feasibility study laid the foundation for a national structure for a circular, sustainable textile industry based on domestic bio-based raw material.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute to a national infrastructure for the collection and processing of Swedish wool. It will provide increased self-sufficiency, strengthened profitability for wool producers, reduced imports and higher resilience and new jobs. Regional value chains will create climate effects and resilience in times of crisis. The system demonstrator will be a key in the transition to a circular and resilient textile industry.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented as a feasibility study with workshops, study tours, test collections, technical analysis, business model development and collaboration with industrial actors. The end result is an anchored investment base and a strong consortium ready for stage 2.
