Important results from the project

Datacenters and AI are among the fastest growing industries in the world. The increasing demand in power consumption and data rates calls for radical changes in architecture and need for power efficient solutions. For the steps carried out in this projects, the goals of developing Solinide’s power-efficient microcomb technology towards datacenter and AI applications was successful. It has demonstrated that they can be modified to reach the performance required to operate in datacenter links.

Expected long term effects

The results from this project have placed Solinide in a key position to drive the energy-efficient microcombs towards AI and data centers. Thus, the results may ultimately enable further scaling of data rates while achieving significant energy savings compared to contemporary technologies. The results from the project have potential to strengthen Europe´s and Sweden´s position in the photonics value chain aimed at AI and data centers. This value chain is currently dominated by the USA and Asia.

Approach and implementation

The project was structured as a series of technical and business development steps to verify that Solinide´s power-efficient microcombs can meet the requirements for datacenter interconnects and AI. Execution largely followed the plan, with key goals reached, although some technical development took longer than expected. Overall, the project confirmed that the combs can deliver the performance required.
