Important results from the project
The overall purpose of the project was to expand BuildID´s SaaS service to also include fixed RFID readers and thus be able to detect flows of construction material. An integral component of this was to get input from real situations in customer environments and thus be able to adapt the product accordingly. Significant steps have been taken towards the use of fixed readers, especially in terms of knowledge about the readers and what updates are needed in the system to cater for them.
Expected long term effects
The project has made progress towards the overall goal of expanding BuildID´s SaaS service to also include fixed RFID readers and thus be able to detect flows of construction material. Several sub-goals have been reached, including building knowledge about the fixed readers, developing use cases and a methodology and basis for testing. Updates required in the system have been specified, and partly implemented. The parts that have not yet been executed are more detailed tests, especially in a customer environment to validate the product from a customer perspective.
Approach and implementation
The project started with analysis of hardware, as it constitute a large share of the cost, however purchases were delayed due to component shortage. A lot of research, testing, and contacts with the supplier were required to set up the readers. If we had researched distributors outside Sweden and the supplier´s developer forum before the project, we could have saved a several weeks. The plan to launch readers in a customer environment was severely delayed due to the restrictions under Covid, thus the project testing has so far been restricted to an internal "customer-like" environment.
