Important results from the project
The purpose of the project has been to study the consequences of a 34 m long and 98 ton heavy chip-truck with regard to energy efficiency, economy, functionality in the present traffic environment, and the accuracy of the weighing system. Planned studies have all been carried out, some during a slightly shorter period than planned. Further processing of the material from the fuel consumption study continues and is expected to be published scientifically during the year.
Expected long term effects
The 98-tonne and 34-meter vehicle did not show any unexpected problems in getting around even in relatively dense traffic close to the city. The 98-tonne vehicle appears to be economically advantageous compared to the 64-tonne vehicle, provided that it can be loaded to gross weights over 80 tonnes (9% measured savings). Measured fuel savings were 8% compared to a highly efficient 64-tonne vehicle. Results were slightly below expectations but should be seen as a minimum potential. The methods for weighing showed too much fluctuation to be suitable for practical use.
Approach and implementation
After a lengthy permit process the vehicle could start operating, first as a 74-tonne truck in 2014, and then as a 98-tonne truck in February 2020. Several studies have been carried out regarding fuel consumption and weighing technology. Based on those studies analyzes of economic conditions has been made. More about the study will be available shortly in "Slutrapport ETTdemoFlis" at skogforsk.se
