Important results from the project

The project aimed to enhance the Volvo companies´ ability to leverage digital opportunities from AI and data analysis. Together with the project´s research partners, the following research question was addressed: "How can established organizations develop digital opportunity matching to extend their firm capabilities?" Use cases and system concepts for digital opportunity matching have been developed and applied. Additionally, transformation knowledge has been gained by studying Volvo´s transformation journey from 2017 to 2024.

Expected long term effects

Key outcomes of the project include the system concept for digital opportunity matching, along with its associated use cases. This project outcome has been utilized by Volvo for internal knowledge development across several departments. The material has also been used to analyze service proposals from external providers aimed at transforming HRM. The knowledge development resulting from the project will assist universities in advanced-level courses in IT management and informatics.

Approach and implementation

The work has been carried out using an action-based design research methodology to ensure that concrete outcomes (concepts and use cases) are developed based on needs, theory, and data collection. This approach also integrates knowledge development as part of the results development process, leading to the achievement of research outcomes. These research results have been documented in two manuscripts for research articles, which were presented at workshops during the project. The manuscripts are planned to be submitted for publication in 2025.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
