Digial underground utility locating

Purpose and goal

The project contributes to the objectives of the call for challenges in digitalisation of industry and business and to increase Sweden´s ability to create and use digital infrastructure and communication. The project contributes to all of the program´s objectives: It provides the ability to develop the next generation digital solution for the protection of digital and other underground infrastructure through a systems perspective. The solution contributes to increased stability and security for communication networks through less excavation damages and stronger IT security.

Expected effects and result

The overall goal of the project is to develop and test the concept of digital underground utility location. The following sub-goals have been set: Creation of prototype infrastructure for sharing utility data The solution verified during real work in the field Demonstration for external guests Prerequisites for a system level change identified

Planned approach and implementation

The project is run in five work packages with many dependencies. The development work is therefore iterative and test-driven, so that experiences from use guide the development of technology, process, division of responsibilities, risk management and business. The tests are laid out so that some parts can be tested directly. In this way, early feedback on usability is enabled.
